Love Minus Zero

My love she speaks like silence
Without ideals or violence
She doesn’t have to say she’s faithful
Yet she’s true, like ice, like fire
People carry roses
Make promises by the hours
My love she laughs like the flowers
Valentines can’t buy her
In the dime stores and bus stations
People talk of situations
Read books, repeat quotations
Draw conclusions on the wall
Some speak of the future
My love she speaks softly
She knows there’s no success like failure
And that failure’s no success at all
The cloak and dagger dangles
Madams light the candles
In ceremonies of the horsemen
Even the pawn must hold a grudge
Statues made of matchsticks
Crumble into one another
My love winks, she does not bother
She knows too much to argue or to judge
The bridge at midnight trembles
The country doctor rambles
Bankers’ nieces seek perfection
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring
The wind howls like a hammer
The night blows cold and rainy
My love she’s like some raven
At my window with a broken wing
I Know

I know… that I am imperfect,
But I know that you are beautiful.
I know that you are strong:
I know that you play the hand you are dealt,
And do not spend your life wishing for another.
I know you have questions:
I know you have fears:
But I know you are brave:
And I know you are generous,
I know…that you are loved very much. x
Letting Go

You were born here,
And died here,
Against your will….
Hurled into this world,
And taken from it,
By an unseen hand.
But you live on
In our love.
We’re your monument,
And your epitaph.
Where you lead,
I must follow,
In my own way…
You showed me how,
To carry a burden,
To accept my fate,
To leave gracefully,
When my time has come…
At the end I was helpless…
I could not comfort you,
Or give you peace.
As it was a cup,
That could not pass from you.
At the end I was a child,
Already missing you,
Who still needed your love…
So when the fire of your spirit,
Became a flickering ember,
Your last smile,
And wave goodbye,
Meant so much.
Your final ceremony,
Was filled with tears,
But left me comforted
And inspired.
It collected,
All the sparks of your life,
Into a pure beacon,
That shone,
One last time,
And then faded away.
The Fallen Rose

We floated in the music and voices
And we held each others hand
We said how our lives and choices
Were like footprints in the sand
The whirlpool around us went round
And time stood still a while
My heart drove me on ’til I found
The words to say goodbye
When life blows everything away
There is nothing left but love
When you have nothing left to say
There is nothing left but love
Her lovely face, her giving
Her laughter and her fun
We miss her..all of us living
As we wait for our kingdom to come
On a cold damp Winter’s day
I kissed a Rose and watched it fall
On a tearful Winter’s day
We said goddbye one and all
When life blows everything away
There is nothing left but love
When this is your last today
There is nothing left but love.
