In the Silence of other Voices

In the silence of other voices
We spoke to each other quietly
In the dark my body cries out
It longs for you nightlyWe have fears and uncertainties
In our past we have regrets there
I desire to see you smile
My heart burns with simple careWe will leave our offerings behind
And our children will thank or rage
They will add their own offerings
To our connected internet ageOur failures are the salt of life
In between try and achieve
They shine and polish our gifts
To find our purpose and believe
Trying to Connect

I walk down the pavement
And I sit down inside
I get a hot coffee and a warm croissant
And then I start swimming against the tideI’m reaching out
I’m trying to connect
I don’t know what’s next
I’m trying to connectAah…This is me now
It’s a new day
And the sun is streaming hot
I forget the story in the stars
Cos nobody knows the plot
I was raised on a promise
It was whispered in the wind
It said “Give all you’ve got
And nobody can say that you’ve sinned”I’m reaching out
I’m trying to connectI don’t need to be rescued
I just need you to be there
I’m reaching out for something
Something we can share
But there’s too much noise, You can’t hear me
And there’s a haze, So we can’t see
I’m still outside, Your comfort zone
And when you don’t understand, I feel more aloneI’m reaching out
I don’t know what’s next
I’m reaching out
I’m trying to connectAah…This is me now
I created a song from my original poem and changed it in the process as often happens.
Everything must end – 1

We must pick our moment
To heave a sigh
We must pick our moment
To say goodbye
Because everything must end
Because everything must endAnd everything that starts
Must finish in time
Everything that rises
Must fall in line
Because everything must end
Because everything must endOnce we were confident
We were beautiful then
We had choices to make
We were wanted then
But everything must end
But everything must end
My Reflection

I asked if my Martini
Was shaken or slowly stirred
I tried understanding Pollock
And his views, of the world
In an apartment in Wall street
I waited for her, to allow
I used to worry much more then
I don’t worry, so much nowI held on to her
Like a crucifix of gold
But I held on too tight
Or so a sage, later told
On the stage I was anxious
For my turn, to take a bow
I used to worry much more then
I don’t worry, so much nowAnd I had this baggage
That I dragged behind
In a battered suitcase
That’s common enough, to find
But the skin, it was too thin
I felt uncomfortable, somehow
I used to worry much more then
I don’t worry, so much nowI was a little man
They said I was distant and mean
I was not honest enough
And my motives, were not clean
These seeds of change they buried
With the tip, of their plough
I used to worry much more then
I don’t worry, so much nowWe said many things
That can never be unsaid
And who will forgive us now,
For all the mistakes, we’ve made?
I’ve prayed for some cool hand
To stroke, my fevered brow
I used to worry much more then
I don’t worry, so much now
The Fire of Experience

The hammer falls, steel on steel
The fire, the heat and the dirt
The sweat and chaos of it all
The pleasure and the hurt.
We interact with ceremonies,
And blessed with sweet incense
We’re moulded, yes, we’re forged
In the fire of experienceThe truth is handed down
With sacred words burning bright
So they say to control us
So they say to bind us tight
But I have spoken to God
And I’ve said, it doesn’t make sense
He agreed, yes, it’s forged
In the fire of experienceYou are born with a clean slate
You build on the best of the past
You do what is effective
To overcome the number cast
And new friendships need a force
To pull them off the neutral fence
To push them, yes, they’re forged
In the fire of experience
The Deep

I move over shimmering waters,
I see my refection in the deep.
I create what I thought was good,
I sow what I thought I’d reap.
I hear a trumpet sound,
At dawn on a lonely hill.
I see a white bird flying south,
As a lion feeds on its kill.I see a baby born,
All crying and bloody red.
With his mother’s hair matted,
As she sleeps in her lonely bed.
I dig deep in the earth,
All wet, sticky and black.
I am soaked by the rain,
But I will never turn back.I see my love measured out,
Into fine, crystal glasses.
All handed out anxiously,
To the next person who passes.
I see my hands rise,
As the rain falls from the sky.
And the mud on my forearms shakes,
With every screaming cry….I see the sun rise
And fall to the earth again
I see the leaves grow and die
In a forest that still remains
In the evening I await,
The white bird to fly
I’m in need of forgiveness,
And the peace it can buy.
Our Beautiful World

The majestic mountains
With white snow on the top
The green forests and the valleys
That glisten with raindrops
I’ve travelled the blue oceans
With sails, white and unfurled
Beneath the deep, blue sky
Of our beautiful worldThere it spins our beautiful world
There it spins our beautiful world
There it spins our beautiful world
There it spins, againEinstein found the formula
For general relativity
And Da Vinci was honoured
For his creativity
Mozart he made music
And Picasso had his art
They all gave more than I
But they still had to departWe give all to our beautiful world
We give all to our beautiful world
We give all to our beautiful world
Then we depart, againI went into your fields
To sow and to reap
I went into your cities
Where what I win I keep
I built a strong castle
I followed your command
But I found no protection
From your invisible handI knocked at your door
For acceptance within
I blew a trumpet
You were not listening
I studied and I learned
To change colour and shape
I climbed over your rejections
To find my place to takeWe fight for a place in our beautiful world
We fight for a place in our beautiful world
We fight for a place in our beautiful world
We fight for a place, againLet’s enjoy the ride
I say to you and me
We are but leaves
On a much bigger tree
And while the sun is out
Let me hold your hand
Love is the earth
In which we standWe give ourselves to our beautiful world
We give ourselves to our beautiful world
We give ourselves to our beautiful world
We give with love, again
He’s a Man

He’s a man
I can identify with him
I can feel him
Deep in my gut withinHe smells the air
Like the wolf he prowls
When he smells his prey
He stalks and howlsHe’s a warrior
Who cuts with his knife
To protect his home
And provide for his wifeHe knows when to play
And when to fight
And when to join
And when a loner is rightIn his soul
There is a ‘meaning’ need
And this can drive him on
To a good or evil deed
10 Commandments for a Civilised World

(These new commandments take the basics for living
Such as “do not steal or do not kill” as given)
1. Seek your purpose and find the right place in the world for you.
Accept with patience when you are lost or waiting for your turn to do.
Understand this is true for others as it is true for you.2. Accept that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
3. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
4. Be effective. Choose the action that allows the most good to shine through.
5. Manage yourself. Manage your fears or they will manage you.
Manage your body with good food and exercise to refresh it anew.
Manage your mind with whatever works for you.6. Love your family. Show your love all day long.
Create a foundation of love, laughter, security and trust for your family to grow strong.7. Provide. Develop your talents and what you can give.
While you have something to share you will never be alone as long as you live.8. Be humble. Remember your mind is small, so fill it with the right things.
Fix your own faults before you try to fix those that others bring.9. Live. Live each moment as if it was your last.
Challenge life and be different from the past.10.Accept that there are no answers as to why…don’t waste time in search or fright.
Burn bright each day before the night.
I welcome any comments on the above. I have collected these based on my journey and accept that they may not resonate with others. I would be interested to hear of any other views.
The Dying Of The Light

I spent most of my life in denial
I just lived in the moment while
Every minute of every day
I just lived and squeezed and made it pay
Because just like a red rose
I was built for a purposeBut often I rage and fight
Against the dying of the light
When I raise my eyes
When I look and realise
That beyond our sight
Is the darkness of the nightI have looked again and again
For someone with power to bargain
Someone to answer why
We live and why we die
But no-one heard my tune
I was howling at the moonSometimes I’m depressed and sad
When I think my future’s bad
When I feel that I’m alone
With nothing to offer anyone
But I won’t drink to forget
Or brush it under the carpetBecause it is a natural process
From which we can’t digress
And the final part is to accept
That nobody can escape death
So burn each day more bright
Until the dying of the light
